Yet another night had passed, and there was no change.  Spike still
arrived within a half hour of sunset and set silently with Willow until a
half hour to sun rise, and then he was forced to leave.  The nurses on the
hospital staff pitied him.  They assumed that he worked long hours each day
to pay for Willow's medical bills and could only visit at night, so they
didn't say anything about him being there after hours.

Are we done for now
Or is this for good
Will there be something in time
With us there should

Each night he sat there, holding her hand as she slept on, in a deep
coma.  her condition was still the same, it hadn't changed in a week, and
the doctors were starting to give up hope of Willow ever waking up again,
but Spike still hoped.  He knew she was stronger than this, that she had
fire in her.

He couldn't lose her now, she was the only woman he would ever truly
love.  If he didn't believe in her, he didn't know what he could possibly
believe in.

Only girl for me is you
There can be no other one
If I didn't have a faith
I would come undone

He was thinking of how bright her eyes had been each night when he
returned home.  They had always shone with such love and adoration directed
at him...sometimes it seemed like he was the only one that got that look, at
least, he had let himself come to believe that.

So much promise in your eyes
Seems that I can only see
It always makes me wonder
If you save it all for me
Maybe you do
Maybe you don't
Maybe you should
Probably won't

During the days, when he couldn't be at the hospital, Spike would use
the tunnels, the sewage systems to travel the town.  It was well known that
he was searching for someone, anyone that could help his Willow.  Spike knew
that there was a way to get her back, to help her wake up, and to make sure
that she was herself.  He just had to find the right person to help them.

Because there will be

Part of him wondered if she slept on only because he was there, if she
was still avoiding him.  He wondered, if he were to leave, would she get
better?  Would she fall in love with some other man and live happily ever
after just like she had dreamed?

There will be other guys
Who will whisper in your ear
Say they'll take away your sadness
And your fears

He knew that if that was what she wanted, he wouldn't be able to keep it
from her, and he knew he would always watch over her whether she were to
know about it or not.  That was how he knew any other man that got to be
close to her, to love her, would be good to her.  He wouldn't let them be
anything else, none of them would ever care about her more than he had and
did now.

They may be kind and true
They may be good for you
But they'll never care for you
More than I do
I'll be always there
There to the end
I can't do much
But be your one true friend

As another night came to a close, Spike leaned over Willow's small,
fragile-looking form and kissed her on the cheek, and then on the forehead.
"I love you, Willow.  Please come back to me," he begged almost slightly
against her soft skin.

To the end
Through the end
Our lives to spend
With each other till the end
Of time

Spike left the room without looking back; that was why he missed her
eyes fluttering open and looking after him.  He hand reaching out for him,
as she tried to call for him, but found that she had no voice.  Closing her
eyes again, she sighed.

Still see the promise in your eyes
And still wonder if it's for me
But I know it's still there
Even when you sleep

Thinking he had heard something, Spike turned back at the last moment.
Seeing her eyes still shut and body unmoving, she sighed out seven last
words before shutting the door.

"So I say, good night, sweet girl."
